Tour itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech to Merzouga desert.

Your driver from Desert Tours Marocco will pick you up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech at the crack of dawn to begin your 2-day desert trip from Marrakech to Fes via Merzouga. Your tour will begin with a drive over the High Atlas mountains, passing via Tizi N Tichka port, with pauses for breathtaking panoramic views and photo opportunities of Berber communities and the surrounding area. After that, we’ll go south to Ait ben Haddou, a walled hamlet designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986. This breathtaking site has used as the backdrop for several notable films, including Game of Thrones, Gladiator, The Jewel of the Nile, and The Mummy. Our trip will take us to Ouarzazate, popularly known as “The Gate of the Desert” and “Noiseless” in Berber, where we will see the exquisite Taourirt kasbah, one of Morocco’s most beautiful ksars.

After driving through the immense Skoura palm grove, which is a magnificent site to see the infinite palms and various kasbahs that have been created in the surrounding region, we’ll stop for lunch in Rose Valley. We’ll next travel via the Dades and Todra valleys, Tinejdad, Touroug, and into the desert to reach the magnificent Merzouga dunes. We’ll go camel trekking in the golden Erg Chebbi Sahara desert, stop to view the magnificent sunset over the dunes, try sandboarding in the dunes if you’re interested, and enjoy the breathtaking landscape. We’ll next go to Moroccan Desert Camp Merzouga, where you’ll be greeted with a soothing sip of mint tea and have time to unwind before supper. After that, there will be some traditional Berber drumming music around the fire, and you will be able to enjoy the lovely starry sky while sleeping in a nomad tented camp.

Day 2: Merzouga to Fes.

We’ll get up early to see one of the most spectacular sights: the dawn over the dunes. After relishing this magical moment and a traditional breakfast at the camp, we’ll ride the camels back to our starting point, transfer to our vehicle, and continue our drive to Fes through Erfoud, a town famous for its fossils and marble stone sculpture.

We’ll continue via the Ziz Valley, with its palm groves, Errachidia, and Midelt, and stop at the cedar forest to see the famed wild monkeys.

We’ll arrive in Fes in the afternoon and leave you off at your hotel, riad, or the closest available place while we continue our overnight Marrakech desert trip. Today closes our overnight desert trek from Marrakech to Fes.

Exclusive Private Excursions to Morocco - Rabat, Meknes & Casablanaca

Our first taste of Morocco was amazing. We contacted Said Ouattou of Desert Tours Marocco Day Tours who helped us plan our short trip. Since we had booked all our nights in a hotel in Casablanca, Said suggested we do private excursions with the help of our driver/guide Omar (Oubana Hassi Labied Omar). We visited Rabat, Meknes and Casablanca. We highly recommend Said and our driver Omar for giving us an excellent service. The whole trip included pick up from Casablanca airport and dropoff, and three full days with driver Omar. We visited the Bouregrag River, Kasbah of the Udayas, the Chellah, Hasan Tower and Mausoleum of Mohammed V in Rabat and the Medina. In Meknes we saw the Ruins of Volubilis, the view of Moulay Idriss, the Royal stables, the old town and Sahrij Swani. The highlight of Casablanca was Hassan II mosque, NotreDame de Lourdes Cathedral, the Corniche Ain Diab, Rick’s Cafe and El Hank lighthouse and of course the shopping mall. Will definitely use the services of Said Ouattou and Omar on our next trip to Marocco…..only next time we will do the 12-day trip.
